Objekt Lens flare je monumentální materializací optického jevu odlesku světla v objektivu kamery. Smetana zde převádí známý digitální efekt „lens flare“ do podoby plošného objektu z plexiskla a akrylu, čímž zpřítomňuje fyzickou existenci kamery v procesu zaznamenávání obrazu. Původně nežádoucí „chyba“ čoček se v digitální kultuře proměnila v oblíbený, často uměle vytvářený efekt, spojený s dojmem autenticity či „amatérského“ záznamu. Smetanovo dílo tuto proměnu odhaluje a ironicky zvýrazňuje: lens flare se stává symbolem propojení lidského vidění a technologického média, ale také nástrojem manipulace s diváckým prožitkem. V kontextu sbírky fotografií a nových médií GHMP objekt rozvíjí autorovu postmediální reflexi obrazu a doplňuje další jeho díla zastoupená ve sbírce.

The object Lens Flare is a monumental materialisation of the optical phenomenon of light reflection in a camera lens. Here, Smetana transforms the well-known digital “lens flare” effect into a two-dimensional object made of plexiglass and acrylic, thereby bringing the physical presence of the camera into the process of image capture. What was originally an unwanted “flaw” in lenses has, in digital culture, transformed into a popular, often artificially created effect associated with the impression of authenticity or an “amateur” recording. Smetana’s work reveals and ironically highlights this transformation: lens flare becomes a symbol of the connection between human vision and technological media, but also a tool for manipulating the viewer’s experience. In the context of the GHMP’s collection of photography and new media, the work expands the artist’s post-media reflection on the image and complements his other works represented in the collection.
