Jitka Hlaváčková is an art theoretician working since 2006 at the Prague City Gallery, where she curates the photography and new media collection. She has prepared a number of exhibition and publication projects, including An Album of Slow Images – Compositions and Artworks from the Uncertain Situations Series (2024); Thinking with Images – Visual Events by Miroslav Petříček (2023); Divination from the Night Sky Partially Obscured by Clouds – The Role of Photography in the Post-Media Age (2022) or Sounds Codes Images – Acoustic Experiment in Visual Art (2019); monographic exhibitions of Jan Jedlička, Tomáš Ruller, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Bohumil Krčil, and thematic exhibitions of Shadi Harouni, Roman Štětina, Zbyněk Baladrán, Jiří Žák, Michaela Maupicová, darina Alster and others. For several years she curated the Start Up series for emerging artists and the online video art gallery Projector. She also participated in the creation and development of the GHMP Art for the City programme, curated the m3 – Art in Space festival in 2021 and the Prague Biennale/Re-connect Art festival in 2021-2023.

In her research she focuses on acoustic art theory, photography, video art and art reflecting technology in post-media contexts. She is also exploring the “public language of art”, i.e. current strategies of urban and environmental art in relation to social, gender and community issues. She is the editor and co-author of catalogues and theoretical publications, and is currently the principal investigator of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 international grant project “Spatial Practices in Art and ArChitecture for Empathetic Exchange” (SPACEx). She has co-organised the conferences Between Landscapes/New Aesthetics (GHMP-ČVUT, 2024), Whom Public Space Serves (GHMP-UMPRUM, 2024) and Gestures of Emancipation (GHMP-AVU, 2021).

She is a member of the board of the Cultural and Creative Federation of the Czech Republic and chairwoman of the professional organization of visual artists and theorists Spolek Skutek (since 2025). She regularly participates in the work of expert committees, is a certifier for the Register of Artistic Outputs (since 2013), and currently also a member of the International Evaluation Panel of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. She has been teaching at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU, since 2025). She completed her master’s and doctoral studies in art history at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. She has three children.
