Report by Artyčok.TV from Biennale 2020, Matter of Art: Come Closer

Organized under the motto of “Come Closer”, the first edition of Bienále Ve věci umění / Matter of Art explores questions of co-existence in a society in which people no longer speak the same language. It looks at instances in which language has failed, exploring contempt, irritation, fear, frustration, anger, aggression, and fatigue. Sensing the need to find a common groundwork and conditions for empathy, the exhibition focuses on searching for the causes of the mood in today’s society.

The work we offer you to listen to is one of the outputs created in June 2020. Dancer Tereza Ondrová has prepared an unconventional adventure walk along the Royal Way, which passes through the historical centre of Prague, following the buildings of the Prague City Gallery. Audiowalk connects these gallery buildings while also allowing you to see the most important sights of Prague, but in a slightly unusual way.

The visual record made in response to this situation means that you can tour the exhibition even long after it was taken down.

As we walk around the Troja neighborhood, you can use a mobile application to look for and listen to the sounds of animals: insects, birds, and other creatures. Some of them you might also hear in real life from the nearby botanical garden or zoo.
