Start up: Barbora Dayef – New Story

“Hero, Snake, House, Dialogic Action…” are the key words of the current exhibition by sculpture student Barbara Dayef. In the new phase of her search for historical coordinates of her existence, the artist works with the cultural heritage of the country of her ancestors, the Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh. As it is typical of her, she has used mainly clay – classical sculptural material, symbolizing for her the element of earth and evoking a certain (sacred) place or landscape. Her methods, however, are not at all classic: she casts holes in clay, deforms it by her own body, using it as a means of painting or as the subject matter of her video performances and sound installations.
