The exhibition Jaroslav Čermák: Myths of European Reality was officially opened by Czech President Petr Pavel and Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović. We are grateful to both presidents, under whose patronage the exhibition is held, for joining us and lending their support.

Jaroslav Čermák did more than simply paint Montenegro. He travelled throughout the country, immersing himself in its culture, traditions, and everyday life, as well as life at the princely court. He painted portraits of the ruling dynasty, captured scenes of daily life, and brought stories of courage, resilience, and the struggle for freedom to life on his monumental canvases. His paintings introduced Montenegro to audiences across Europe and helped shape how the country was seen at the time.

As Montenegro celebrates 20 years of independence, Čermák’s work offers a powerful reminder of the deep historical and cultural ties between our two countries.
