Prague City Gallery requests the pleasure of your company at the opening of the exhibition Jaroslav Čermák: Myths of European Reality organized in collaboration with the National Gallery Prague.

For the first time in more than a hundred years, the work of this remarkable painter will be presented in its entirety and in a European context. Jaroslav Čermák (1830–1878) was one of the most talented artists of his generation, who succeeded in connecting the Czech experience with the international art world of the mid-19th century. In the Balkans, he helped to define national self-awareness and remains an icon there to this day. He exhibited at the Paris Salons de la Société des Artistes Français, won awards in Belgium and France and his paintings found their way into collections throughout Europe.

The opening will also celebrate the launch of the publication Jaroslav Čermák: Myths of European Reality (published in collaboration with KANT publishing house), and a children’s book, Jaroslav Čermák: A Romantic Journey through Europe – both produced in collaboration with the National Gallery Prague.

Please note: Due to limited exhibition capacity, a queue may form at the gallery entrance. Thank you for your understanding.
