The art workshops will be focused on the exhibiting artist’s artworks and will reflect areas of their work – sculpture, figural motifs and features of the Art Nouveau style. The series of workshops, entitled Sketching: the Portrait, will be situated in the Education Centre, where a drawing session with a live model will take place. Participants will be introduced to the basics of studying portrait drawing, drawing techniques and shading methods. We will continue with the role of drawing as an essential study tool for the sculptor to clarify compositional and other aspects of the artwork. We will also focus on facial expression and the dynamics and gesture of the drawing medium during the creation of the artistic work. Emphasis will also be placed on the approach to and presentation of traditional sculptural materials, techniques, processes and methods.
The Featuresof Art Nouveau workshop series will focus on a tactile technique whereby we will be creating a low relief on paper. During the artistic work, we will be inspired by Meštrović’s distinctive penmanship and will also focus on the characteristic elements of the decorative style of Art Nouveau (ornamentation, linearity and rhythm).
During the interactive workshops under the title The Figure in Sculptural Form, we will focus on the creation of relief from traditional clay material, which we will cast in plaster. We will seek inspiration for our own work in the artist’s artwork in relation to important French and Czech sculptors. Throughout our artistic work, we will focus on themes such as archaism, stylisation of the figure, decorative arts and monumentality in sculpture.
This programme is designed not only for adults and seniors, but also for their children and grandchildren as part of an intergenerational encounter. The workshops are also open to foreign visitors.
