The Delicate Beauty of Prague Earthenware from the Collections of the City of Prague Museum

From April 1, 2016, Troja Château will be hosting a unique array of Prague earthenware from the collections of the City of Prague Museum. The series of items were manufactured by the Prague Fine Earthenware Factory, founded in 1791 by four Prague burghers in the street Na Poříčí. The factory produced chiefly tableware and drinking sets sold at prices adjusted to the capacities of urban middle-class pockets, decorated with painted genre pictures, romantic landscapes and figures of saints. Figure earthenware featuring historical and mythological themes and scenes from Mozart operas represented a fairly marginal part of the factory’s output, albeit by no means negligible, thanks to its designs by the company’s talented modeller, Jan Votýpka.
