Milota Havránková: MILOTA

A retrospective marking the seventieth birthday of this representative of the Slovak and Czech art scenes, photographer and multimedia artist. As a teacher at the Bratislava College of Art and Design, Milota Havránková influenced an entire generation of Slovak photographers who have entered history as the “Slovak New Wave.”

With its focus on experimental photography, its choice of subjects and its modes of visual realization, her output stands apart from the mainstream Slovak photographic production, insofar as it keeps distance from the classic approaches to photography, black-and-white document and photographic conceptual idioms. The works on view here exemplify an uninterrupted experiment with the photographic medium which is thereby subject to a process of continuous change.
