Light Underground – The Memory of Stone

The vaults of the Stone Bell House, hidden in the heart of Prague, will light up for several weeks in summer thanks to the new program Light Underground – a light art intervention combined with dance performances. The Romanesque and Gothic vaults will thus start the dialogue with contemporary art forms.

British dancer and choreographer, Czech-born Andrea Miltnerová, and her long-standing collaborator, light designer Jan Komárek, will present their dance fantasy in motion and pictures. Their dreamy improvisation aimed at “anticipated lives”, called The Memory of Stone, attempts at returning the genius loci into the empty medieval vault. Under the ceiling, the artists will play with light and shadows, with sounds and silence. „Every place we’re going to look at has known life. Someone’s been here, stopped walking… was born, or died. There are enchanted memories in stones, sleeping, but able to wake up for a moment through fantasy…”

Dancer and choreographer Dora Sulženko Hoštová, musician Jan Čtvrtník and light designer Dominik Jančík prepared Tanzometr, an installation of technology and motion. In the unusual multimedia performance, they will explore the mutual relations of music, light and dance, and their measurable potential.
