Educational Videos → Still Life

Language: English

This educational video presents still life as an artistic theme, explaining its distinctive characteristics and various approaches. Through a brief overview of world painting, with a particular focus on the GHMP collection, it highlights the many forms that still life can take. The video compares different artistic approaches and also presents the basic principles for preparing a still life for further artistic interpretation. This is followed by an art assignment that works with objects around us and their random or intentional grouping and their subsequent photographic capture (still life can also be rendered through drawing, painting, collage and other techniques). This educational video is suitable for students in the final years of primary school and secondary education, but it can be adapted for other age groups with some modifications. Still lifes from the GHMP collections can be found by entering the keyword “zátiší” (still life) here: www.ghmp.cz/sbirky/

Educational Videos → Jiří Sopko

Language: English

The GHMP has prepared a new series of educational videos – educational tutorials – for families with children, pupils, students, teachers and other age groups. These are step-by-step guides to interesting art projects and workshops inspired primarily by selected works from the GHMP collections, including its permanent exhibitions, long-term exhibitions, objects and the collection of public sculptures. Through these videos, people can learn more about the GHMP collections and discover some new art techniques, processes and methods. The tutorials are organised along three thematic lines, based on inspirational ideas and starting points: the distinctive styles and techniques of notable artists, artistic themes, and art theory (such as colour theory and various means of expression). These videos can effectively support and enrich both distance and traditional learning, or simply entertain children during their free time.

Jiří Sopko – Educational Tutorial
Inspired by works from the GHMP collections

This educational video introduces the work of the prominent Czech painter Jiří Sopko, focusing on his approach to using bold colours and exploring other aspects of his distinctive style – such as reduction and simplification of forms, playfulness, humour and hyperbole. Works from the GHMP collections have been selected as examples. The video also provides a more detailed explanation of colour theory, covering topics such as primary and complementary/contrasting colours, followed by instructions for creating your own artwork inspired by the combination of complementary colours. This involves making colourful images using objects from around you. All of these activities can be easily done at home using readily available materials and tools.

Manual for Future Activities
The European manual for the App Your School project is a methodological handbook for teachers and educators at cultural institutions and schools. It is one of the two central outcomes of the international educational scientific-research project App Your School, in which the Czech Republic was actively represented by the education department of Prague City Gallery (GHMP) and by ZUŠ Music Art, which offers after-school art and music classes (2016–2019). The publications provide teachers with inspiration, tips, and ideas for their classes. The project was the result of a collaborative effort by educators from eight European countries: Italy, Finland, Turkey, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Greece, and the Czech Republic, and its main partner and organizer was the Italian education center Zaffiria. For the Czech Republic, organizational support for the project came from the European Development Agency. The project was realized in collaboration with the prestigious University of Bologna as part of the Erasmus+ program, and was presented at several academic conferences in the Czech Republic and abroad. It is an accredited project (2016-1-IT02-KA201-024439) focused on the meaningful application of new media education. The main task was the design, realization, and evaluation of “digital studios” – six-hour workshops designed to promote the meaningful and creative use of new media and ICT (information and communications technology) in teaching and gallery-based education. The most important outcomes are two academic publications: the English-language European Manual and a Czech-language national toolkit (+ national toolkits in the languages of the other participating countries). These expert methodological manuals contain theoretical texts on the outcomes of research, plus instructions, guidelines, and examples of digital studios in the eight European countries. The European Manual, a joint publication by all the participating European countries, presents all 40 digital studios. The educators from GHMP and ZUŠ Music Art not only designed and implemented their digital studios, but also wrote several of the academic texts included in these publications.
