Mon 7 July 2025, 1–6 pm
Education Centre in the GHMP Colloredo-Mansfeld
Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace and Statues on Charles Bridge (collection of public sculptures, GHMP)During the workshop, we will introduce the Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace, one of Prague’s most fascinating and significant Baroque and Rococo structures, through video and photo projections. We will respond in an artistic way to the inspiring details of the palace’s architecture, which is permeated by many building styles (interpretation of the space, putting finishing touches to reproductions of local Baroque-Rococo ornaments and marble decorations). Further inspiration will come from the nearby Charles Bridge and its statues, which are in the care of the GHMP. The workshop will include putting finishing touches to reproductions of the statues (changing contexts, setting them into a new environment, adding contemporary attributes, finding parallels to the present and playing with details). Educational sheets on Charles Bridge will also be available to serve as a guide to the bridge for families with children.
Tue 8 July 2025, 1–6 pm
GHMP Zámek Troja, Eco-studio in the Orangery of Troja Château
The Palace of (Leisure) TimeThe art workshop will be held as an open studio, during which we will draw on the formal and content aspects of the current exhibition (Palace of (Leisure) Time), i.e., on the theme and context of the leisure phenomenon and will focus on handicrafts, textile creation, emphasising the potential of specific qualities of materials (paper, fabric, wool and yarn, ceramic clay, etc.) and the creation of functional objects and items used in everyday routines through recycling and upcycling. Natural materials from the garden of Troja Château will also be utilised. A collective “artwork in progress” will also be created – a tablecloth symbolising home and stability, which will be gradually completed by joint embroidery. Tactile activities will also be available for people with visual impairments – whether they are blind or partially sighted – as well as for sighted visitors.
Wed 9 July 2025, 1–6 pm
GHMP Zvon
Enter the RoomDuring the art workhop, we will take for basis directly the concept of the exhibition, which aims to present the influence of the gaming environment on the visuality of the emerging generation of artists and the imagination of future forms of human civilization. During our artistic response, we will apply a wide range of artistic techniques (drawing, painting, creation of objects, collage, etc.) and we will also work with the medium of moving image and animation. Visitors will also use iPads and smartphones as creative tools to create, using special applications, including augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI). We will focus on the possibilities of interconnecting the physical and digital worlds. The key motif for our creation will be the door, symbolising decision-making, opportunities, limits, and transitions between different environments and worlds. Another important theme will be ecology and the imagination of the future. During the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to design their own game character or avatar, its nature and to craft a story (e.g., also in the form of a storyboard) that captures the overall artistic atmosphere, enhancing the viewer’s imagination. We will also draw inspiration from analogue games such as cards and dice to create tarot card designs, both traditionally and digitally.
Thu 10. 7. 2025, 1–6 pm
GHMP Knihovna
Tono StanoWe will introduce a major retrospective exhibition of the prominent photographer Tono Stano to all target groups through an interactive and creative art workshop. The artist’s works, such as his experimental series and conceptual photography, will serve as a source of inspiration. We will focus on staged portrait photography, working with the body/physicality and the use of different light sources, their intensity, influence on the composition and atmosphere of the work, etc. We will also try out a wide range of experimental and conceptual approaches and mixed media techniques, and create photo collages and photomontages in graphic programmes on iPads.
Fri 11 July 2025, 1–6 pm
GHMP Dům fotografie
Pavel JasanskýThrough art workshop, we will provide visitors with an interactive introduction to the first extensive retrospective exhibition of the photographer, graphic designer and artist Pavel Jasanský. We will draw inspiration from an exploration of his multifaceted work, which includes photography (documentary and portrait), painting, sculpture, video and intermedia. During individual interactions with the works and their subsequent interpretation and discussion, we will confront and compare the diverse perspectives of programme participants on each specific work and series of photographs. As part of our artistic responses, we will use mixed-media and experimental techniques such as colouring black-and-white photographs with watercolours and ink and photo collages. We will also create designs for record covers and posters in the form of photographic collages.
Sat 12 July 2025, 1–6 pm
GHMP Bílkova vila
František Bílekʼs StudioDuring the workshop, we will be inspired by the work of the artist František Bílek (1872-1941) – sculptor, graphic artist, illustrator, creator of applied art and partly also an architect, who combined elements of Art Nouveau, Symbolism, Decadence and Expressionism in his work. Through drawings and collages, we will apply symbols and natural motifs appearing in his work in combination with his original rendering of typeface, with an overlap into artistic experimentation. During the workshop, participants will get acquainted with the unique environment of Bílek’s villa at Hradčany and the exhibition dedicated to the work of this visionary, mystic, esoteric, religious thinker and, above all, artist.
Sun 13 July 2025, 1–6 pm
GHMP Bílkův dům (in Chýnov)
Long-term exhibitionDuring the workshop, we will respond to the unique building that is Bílek’s house in Chýnov (the so-called Chaloupka or “Cottage”). We will draw the sculptures and their details that were important to Bílek (hands, eyes, facial expressions and drapery). We will design the decoration of ceramic vases based on the artist’s models. We will also try our hand at designing sculptures inspired by different tree shapes and at creating so-called “living sculptures”. We will also incorporate in our work the distinctive typeface of František Bílek (1872–1941), who combined elements of Art Nouveau, Symbolism, Decadence and Expressionism in his work.
Art materials will be available on site. You can come and go anytime between 1 pm and 6 pm. Workshops do not build on one another – it is up to you how many you attend. Booking is not necessary.
The events will be conducted by the educators of Prague City Gallery, Markéta Slachová Goldová and Jolana Lažová.
