As part of our Saturday workshops, we will draw inspiration from an exhibition dedicated to Lake Baikal, the world’s oldest and deepest lake, which holds more than 20% of the world’s freshwater. During their year-long stay in Siberia, artists Gabriela Bulišová and Mark Isaac created a project mapping the unique beauty of Lake Baikal as well as the threats it faces from pollution and climate change.

In these Saturday workshops, we will delve into experimental photographic and painting techniques. We will work with both traditional and alternative art materials, discovering the power of light, imprints and chance. We will transform images using water, sun exposure and salt. Together, we will trace the stories, legends and mythological creatures that permeate the Baikal landscape and the lives of its inhabitants to this day.  We will try our hand at the historical photographic technique of cyanotype, or blueprinting, and create images as well as personal love letters inspired by the landscape of Lake Baikal.

The art workshops will support the development of visual literacy, critical thinking, sensory perception, and the capacity for personal reflection, and offer space for participants’ own creative responses to the exhibition’s themes within the context of contemporary art.
