We will introduce a major retrospective exhibition of the prominent photographer Tono Stano to all target groups through interactive and creative art workshops. Our inspiration will be drawn from the artist’s primarily staged photography. A deeper exploration of the exhibition reveals that his work also intertwines with traditional approaches and themes such as portraiture, landscape and more. His experimental series and conceptual photography will also serve as sources of inspiration. Through individual interactions, as well as various creative activities involving the photographs, their subsequent interpretations and related discussions, participants will compare their different perspectives on each specific work. During the art workshops, we will focus on the main themes, areas, and characteristic elements of Tono Stano’s work.
We will engage in staged portrait photography, incorporating work with the body and physicality, the use of different light sources – considering their intensity, effects on composition, atmosphere, etc. We will also explore a wide range of experimental and conceptual approaches, including mixed media techniques, such as photograms or a combination of photography and painting. We will show you how to use light to model figures, accentuate their lines and create different visual compositions, as well as how to create staged portraits, highlight or diminish facial features and thus change the resulting form and character of the portrayed person. As part of our use of new media, we will test how to work with subsequent post-production of photographs. In the workshops we will also create photo collages and photo montages using graphics software programmes on iPads. The workshops will develop visual, information and media literacy while promoting creative and critical thinking.
