These interactive workshops will respond to a selection of artworks from the collections of Prague City Gallery. The artistic activities will focus primarily on the medium of painting and various artistic processes inspired by the selected artists. During the introductory programme entitled Watercolour – Colour Creation, participants will try the traditional procedure for preparing their own watercolours, mixing powdered pigments with a binder. The actual procedure and process of making the colour shades will be an interesting creative activity reminiscent of a craft workshop. It will then be possible to use these mixed colours together for the artistic work. We will focus on glazing, the use of watercolours, and on the composition of the picture. This workshop will introduce you to selected artists (such as Alois Bílek, Miroslav Ponc) and, via their work, we will focus on forms of abstraction and geometric shapes.

In a series of workshops called Watercolour and Gouache Painting, we will try painting with watercolours which we will mix with opaque white. The inspiration for the activities will be artists whose works represent the technique of watercolour and gouache (e.g. Luděk Marold, Alfons Mucha, Josef Navrátil, Vilém Nowak, Vojtěch Sedláček, Marie Vořechová-Vejvodová, and others). We will try painting on light and dark paper backgrounds. During the artistic work we will focus on nature motifs and also on still life.

This programme is designed not only for adults and seniors, but also for their children and grandchildren as part of an intergenerational encounter. The workshops are also open to foreign visitors.

This activity is implemented with the financial support of UNHCR (The UN Refugee Agency) and the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic.
