The art workshops reflect the cooperation between the GHMP Education Department and the Prague Botanical Garden. The concept of mutual cooperation focuses on connecting two inspiring spheres; gardens and art. Through the workshops entitled Flowers and Butterflies, we will focus on floral themes, on the subjects of different types of butterflies and on the related themes they represent: lightness, fragility and airiness. These specific qualities will be applied in the painting technique of watercolour, which in its expression similarly represents translucency, freshness and delicacy. The artistic creation will also focus on mixed media, where we will concentrate on creative work with collage and we will also use special papers decorated with spirit stain.
During the art programme entitled Garden Motifs in Graphic Arts, we will focus on the drypoint technique. We will first focus on sketches as records of our artistic ideas. We will then use a simple engraving tool to transfer the final motif to the smooth surface of a plastic plate which will then be used to create a printing impression. The workshops will also include finalising the works of art that are to decorate the entrance to the Fata Morgana greenhouse in the Botanical Garden for the exhibition of tropical butterflies entitled Butterflies on the Move (19 April – 2 June 2024). Participants will focus on creating butterfly-shaped models and further concentrate on their visual aspect in terms of colour and variety. The workshops will also introduce the work of selected artists whose works are part of the GHMP collections. The works will be related to the theme of butterflies (Vladimír Boudník, Václav Boštík, Alén Diviš, Jiří John, Naděžda Plíšková, Lev Šimák and Max Švabinský).
This programme is designed not only for adults and seniors, but also for their children and grandchildren as part of an intergenerational encounter. The workshops are also open to foreign visitors.
This activity is implemented with the financial support of UNHCR (The UN Refugee Agency) and the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic.
