10 am–7 pm — Art workshops: Image and Text – GHMP Education Department
→ Orangery Eco-studio
This year, you can once again look forward to a varied program full of creative activities for families with children and for all other age groups and target groups, including disadvantaged people and foreigners. The workshops are inspired by many types and forms of combining text (writing) and images: book creation and typography (book cover and bookmark designs), book objects, giant collaborative picture books, ex-libris, lettrism, street art and graffiti, illustrations, initials, collages, experimental herbariums, etc. The events will also include a collective work “in progress”, in which visitors will complete and gradually fill a giant picture book with letters, numbers, codes, symbols, words, sentences, text fragments, and quotations, using cut-out letters of various colors and sizes prepared by graphic design students from the secondary art school as part of their internship at the GHMP. Educators Lucie Haškovcová, Markéta Slachová Goldová, Jolana Lažová, and Julie Kolářová will also apply their professional specializations during the workshop – e.g., overlaps with literature, writing and text, book creation, film, new media, illustration, graphic design, etc.
11 am–6 pm — Apple juicing – MetroFarm community farm
→ cider making
From books and discussions, you can take a break in the spacious gardens, where you will find an orchard with 365 apple trees of various varieties – from the most common to historical rarities. And this year’s harvest is truly bountiful! You can pick apples or use the press to make your own cider. Bring your own cups for tasting and bottles to take home. We would like to thank the MetroFarm community garden for their support.
12–7 pm — Workshop based on the book The Reward for Effort Is Not Insignificant
→ sales stand of the jakost publishing house
ACCOMPANYING PROGRAM — SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21
11 am–1 pm — Shapes, cutting, templates… – Pink Box / Philosophy for Children: Dominik Tyl and Lucie Šťastná
→ Orangery Eco-studio
Art workshop with illustrators Dominik Tyl and Lucie Šťastná for the upcoming LES edition. Try out a technique that can be used to create even a philosophical book. The workshop is suitable for all age groups (children aged 6 and up).
12–12.45 pm — From Mimeograph to ePub, Wrestling With Form – Fortner Anderson
→ auditorium (in English)
From mimeographed sheets of the 1970’s to e-pubs in 2025, poet and artist Fortner Anderson has grappled with the introduction of the photocopy, photo-lithography, desktop and on-line publishing to produce his book works. Using examples from his long practice, he describes how the content of his books has dictated their form, from chapbooks to dollhouse books to comic books to Javascript enhanced e-books and to his latest book, laser-engraved within a solid block of crystal.
1–1.45 pm — Guided tour of the artworks in Troja Château Labyrinth – Agáta Hošnová
→ Orangery Eco-studio
During the summer, the curatorial team of Art for the City installed four new visual artworks by graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in the gardens of Troja Château.
The featured artists are Magdaléna Pacáková, Antonie Hlavicová, Mia Milgrom, and František Felix. Each of the exhibited pieces, situated throughout the unique setting of the château’s garden labyrinth, responds to specific aspects of leisure activities—such as cottage life, mushroom picking, basket weaving, or contemplation in nature—explored in the exhibition Palace of (Leisure) Time, on view until 29 October 2025.
2–4 pm — Cyanotypes and Herbariums – Studio Bubec: Eliška Špálová
→ Orangery Eco-studio
Discover one of the oldest photographic techniques – cyanotype, or blueprint. Try out the process of creating a photograph without using a camera. We will develop the photos together directly in the sun. We will then finish the resulting blue-and-white images using other artistic techniques, plants, and flowers that we collect outside. The workshop opens up space for experimentation, spontaneity, and playful creation. It is suitable for adults and children aged 7+ accompanied by an adult.
